The animal who inspired this artwork is Dutch Boy and his story is below:

He stole all our hearts from the start. A call came in about a stray dog that had wandered under a man's back porch seeking shelter. Donna pulled up and found this handsome boy, he was a mostly white pittie with a grey "mask" around his eyes. He was scared but crawled over to her with his tail wagging between his legs. His face and body looked like it was covered in dried blood. She rushed him to the Stray Rescue trauma center, where the vet team believed something was poured on him. They suspected it could be anything from scalding hot water to acid. Everyone in the shelter heard his cries that first night. It was heartbreaking. He was shaved and his wounds were cleaned daily. The most painful part was, even after all of the trauma he had endured, he never stopped wagging his tail or trusting us to take care of him. Dogs don't feel sorry for themselves, they remain kind and brave. It's amazing how forgiving these dogs can be. He was full of gratitude and love. They certainly do offer unconditional love and we owe them nothing less. He continued to heal, his body and his soul. He found the perfect forever home - where he is spoiled by his humans and has two doggy siblings to play with. He snuggles on the couch, get's held like a baby, and even gets dressed up for Christmas pictures. He's happy, safe, loved. He is a warrior.
