ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Scuba Diving Certification:
What it includes:
eLearning that can be done in the user's own time/schedule preferences. Upon completion of the eLearning, we will spend a couple of days of instruction in a pool here in Tucson to develop the skills the student needs to be a certified scuba diver. After the pool work is completed, the Open Water Scuba Diver student must complete 4 dives in open water (we go to San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico and do the dives in the Sea of Cortez. Jacques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez "the world's aquarium" for good reason. The diversity of life in these waters is spectacular. Tanks, weights, scuba specific gear and wetsuits are included as part of the package as is my time as the instructor for a short classroom session after the eLearning is completed and before the pool sessions begin, my instruction in the pool and my instruction in San Carlos.
What is not included:
1. Mask/snorkel/fins/log book. The student can purchase these items as a package of high quality equipment with a deep discount from us, but it is not required that the equipment is purchased from us. We do like to be consulted, at least, to make sure that the equipment being purchased is adequate for scuba diving.
2. Boat fees. These range from $225.00 to $365.00 depending on whether the student elects for a 2 day/2 dives per day package or a 3 day/2 dives per day package. Boat fees include weights, tanks, snacks and lunch on board the boat each day. The benefit of the 3 day trips is that after the 4 training dives, the newly certified diver will be able to experience 2 additional dives in order to practice skills and gain more confidence as a diver, but the 2 day trip is sufficient. Dives in the Sea of Cortez may be canceled due to weather (or, as was the case between March and July of this year, due to COVID) and the payments will be credited towards a future dive trip. The trips require a $50.00 non-refundable deposit at the time of scheduling the trip in order to hold a spot on the boat, as space is limited.
3. Travel/food/accommodations. We can help arrange carpooling/caravanning and also provide insight into hotels (various levels of quality and cost) and AirBnB and other managed homes/condos/apartments.
