Hope is a small Shih Tzu rescued from a long-term hoarding situation in Hickory County. 25 dogs and one cat had been left behind when their owner passed away. Hope was seriously ill with a severely infected uterus. Rescuers rushed her to HSMO where veterinarians were able to perform surgery to save her life.
After a long recovery, and during a pandemic, Hope was adopted into her forever home! It is estimated to have cost around $5,000 to treat Hope. Your donation of $5,000 would ensure that future animals rescued from similar situations will get the care and treatment they need!
Oakley was literally pulled from the rubble of a neglected property in Oregon County last July. Skinny and scared, Oakley was living in a triangular chain link pen with no gate or door, and had to be cut out by HSMO rescuers. Oakley and several other dogs were pinned in, surrounded by trash and filth, with no access to food or water.
Oakley had a medley of medical issues, including skin ulcers, whipworms, and severe malnourishment. He had to be treated with IV's in order to survive. And survive he did! Within three weeks Oakley was healthy enough to be made available for adoption and within days found his forever home!
It is estimated to have cost about $2,500 to treat and care for Oakley. Your $2,500 donation will ensure that future animals in similar situations will get the treatment and care they need.
Nina, a young lab mix mother with 4 nursing puppies, came to the Humane Society skinny and scared. She and her pups were rescued from deplorable conditions they probably would not have survived. Other dogs found on the property had already died. Thanks to the expert care of our staff and public support, Nina, Nancy, Nemo, Ned and Nebula are recovering well. When the pups are weaned, they and Nina will be spayed or neutered and made available for adoption.
It costs about $500 to care for a nursing mama and about $250 for a litter of puppies. Your contribution of either amount will ensure that other nursing mamas and puppies in similar situations will get the care they need.
Rory, an adorable Dachshund mix puppy, was one of 81 dogs rescued from filthy, neglectful conditions. He was shivering, scared and suffering from painful eye and skin infections. Our veterinarians and staff worked hard to nurse him back to health and properly socialize him in preparation for a wonderful new home. We are happy to report he's now playing and thriving with grateful adopters. Thank you for caring about Rory, the other dogs he was rescued with, and the thousands of other animals who have a second chance because of you!
Did you know that in just a couple of years, a female cat and her un-neutered offspring can produce hundreds of cats? In seven years, that number jumps to 67,000! For just $50, you can help prevent thousands of unwanted cats, many who will be left to starve on the streets, get hit by cars or eaten by a predator. Every week the Humane Society receives hundreds of stray, unwanted, neglected dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Each of them like the mother and kittens shown here receives a thorough veterinary exam, deworming, flea and tick prevention and other necessary treatments in addition to spay/neuter surgery.
