Her Words (formerly Girls Surviving), a free after-school and summer in-depth mentoring program, running for 13 years at Morristown High School, supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of teen girls and gender nonconforming youth by enhancing learning through literary activities, drama, and a wide range of creative arts, positively transforming the lives of under-served youth in our community.

Participants meet weekly with the teaching artists and social workers to write expressively about the experiences and issues that are important in their lives. Through a wide range of engaging activities, participants improve their oral and written communication skills while developing self-esteem, conflict-resolution abilities and problem-solving skills.

Moreover, this program gives these students a voice and a forum through which they can perform and express their hopes and frustrations, develop their ideas, and "tell their stories." Through connection, collaboration, and camaraderie, troupe members form long-lasting relationships with their peers and staff that positively impact their lives and the direction of their future.
