Denver Public Library's Western History and Genealogy will host the winner and 5 guest for a private viewing of over 100 of John James Audubon's prints from the 3rd edition of his "Birds of America."

This edition, called the Bien Edition (after chromolithography pioneer Julius Bien) is a full-sized reissue published in 1958 by Roe Lockwood in New York under the supervision of Audubon's second son, John Woodhouse Audubon. Due in part to the Civil War, this edition was never finished; only 15 parts of the 44-part series were completed. Fewer than 100 subscriptions were sold, making this edition rarer than earlier editions.

The viewing will be curated by Martin Leuthauser, an archivist and catalog librarian, who processes manuscript collections and cares for and manages Denver Public Library's Western Collection.

Visit must be coordinated a minimum of two weeks in advance and must be held during regular library business hours.

Certificate for this item will be mailed/emailed to winner.
