Using sculpture, video, and socially engaged practices, Cara Levine explores the intersections of the physical, metaphysical, traumatic, and illusionary. A 2012 MFA graduate from CCA, Levine's work has been presented around the world from the Tenderloin Museum and the Marciano Foundation to institutions in Reykjavik and Kyoto, and her collaborative social practice work "This Is Not A Gun" was recently presented as a part of the For Freedoms Congress at MOCA LA. She was the organizer of the first annual Self-Taught Artists Fair with Public Annex in Portland, and was a longtime facilitator at Creative Growth in Oakland, as well as a former substitute at NIAD Art Center!
"I made this group of images after the news of Alton Sterling's violent murder in the driver's seat of his car. I think the imagery of his murder was in the zeitgeist, and in my subconscious ... As soon as these images were complete, I felt I made them after him." - Cara Levine
