Recently HSU's population of cats has shifted more and more to undersocialized and/or overstimulated cats who struggle in large areas and seek a smaller space for 'denning' to feel safe and current research is that cats in shelters shouldn't be group housed with more than 5-6 cats they don't know to prevent unnecessary stress. The six deluxe townhomes would have natural light from the front windows overlooking the fountain and skylights overheard. They can each house up to 2-3 related cats but will be a more manageable size for an overwhelmed kitty with spaces to climb, den, hide or play, sunbathe, snuggle as they need, with room for a single group of visitors at a time. It will feel more like home than a shelter and give both the kitties and human visitors a better experience.
