Alex Russell The Great Map of Greenpoint, signed print 24" x 36" unframed 100 weight paper, matte finished Framed by Imagic Studio, Manhattan Ave. On November 1, 2019, The Great Map of Greenpoint was selected and inducted into the New York Public Library Lionel Pincus and Princess Firyal Map Division as the first and only archived map pictorial of Greenpoint, Brooklyn in their collection. In 2010 when I moved to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, it was a sleepy neighborhood tucked away from the New York City spotlight. There were very limited options when it came to restaurants, bars, and reasons to visit. All that everyone wanted to talk about was Williamsburg. But things were beginning to change. People, including myself, started seeing the potential in this historic neighborhood and began taking chances on it; businesses were popping up in spaces that had sat empty for years. Opportunity was everywhere. The Great Map of Greenpoint began as an effort to drive business around the neighborhood. As a restaurant owner in Greenpoint, it was to draw attention to everything this great little area had to offer. It was a symbol of community and support of one another. "non nobis solum nati sumus," not for us alone are we born. - Cicero
