One-of-a-kind custom WWII Marine Raider Paddle
This paddle was hand crafted by a Marine Raider to resemble the WWII era paddle on which this tradition was founded. All the decorations are authentic items donated by generations of Raiders. It is traditionally the ultimate gesture of respect and appreciation a team can give a teammate.
Decorations include:
On Handle:

Eagle, Globe, and Anchor - World War II
Wrap: Rifle Bore Cleaner Rope - World War II
On Paddle Blade:

Marine Special Operation Coin - Afghanistan
Marine Special Operations Insignia - Iraq
Special Operations Task Force North Patch - Iraq
Infrared American Flag Shoulder Patch - Afghanistan

The Marine Raiders of World War II were formed at the request of President Roosevelt to provide a commando-style force that could conduct amphibious raids and operate behind enemy lines. When a Marine Raider checked into a unit, he was issued a paddle that he trained with throughout all the clandestine small boat training. Then when a Marine was leaving the Raider Battalion, if his other teammates thought he was "worth his salt," they would break into the supply locker and acquire the Marine's paddle to decorate it. They used what modest means were available like parachute cord and military insignia. It was then presented to the Marine as a farewell gift at what is referred to today as a "paddle party". The decoration of the Raider paddles has developed into a craft and have come to be the most cherished tribute to a departing Raider.
