"Transformation" (2020)

By Jane Barber

acrylic on canvas & wood

"This kitty is channeling her inner black panther. The black panther is a symbol of power, protection, courage and determination. In contrast, black cats typically represent superstition, prejudice and/or bringers of good or bad luck. I hope this piece challenges people's perceptions, especially prejudices about black cats. In reality, there is no such thing as a black panther; they are variants of other large cats. This one is a leopard. This piece is multidimensional so it can be displayed either way. It's heavily influenced by my love of Art Deco."
