2 Watchers

The best-known and best-loved of all Gilbert and Sullivan (at least to American audiences and performers alike), The Pirates of Penzance unleashes its rollicking band of inept pirates and bumbling policemen on the Mandel Hall stage at the University of Chicago this March 13, 14 & 15.

Filled to the brim with songs, jokes, and visuals that promise to be familiar and accessible to those new to Gilbert and Sullivan, Pirates also holds a special place in the hearts of countless performers, as it represents the first exposure for many to the world of light opera.

The Pirates of Penzance; or, The Slave of Duty is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. The opera tells the story of a young pirate apprentice named Frederic who has come to the end of his indentured period. As it turns out, Frederic was indentured by mistake. His half-deaf nurse had been instructed to apprentice him to a "pilot" but got it a little wrong. At any rate, Frederic has decided to leave the pirate life forever and, though he loves his comrades dearly, devote his life to the extermination of their kind.

Presented by the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company and the University of Chicago Department of Music. Value $50.

There is a limit of two(2) for this item. The 2 highest bidders will each win a package of 2 tickets for the opera.
