About the Work
A series of images using discarded, ordinary, everyday found objects shot isolated on a plain white background. The presentation, ike a scientific record, gives these societal rejects new perspective and weight. The abandoned items become mysterious and intriguing modem relics. Though they no longer serve
any useful function, they possess an elegance and patina from their time spent weathered by the elements as if pulled from an archeological dig.

In the second part of the series, I have combined the discarded objects with textured surfaces that are meant to reference cave paintings. They give the impression of the efforts of a previous civilization to communicate the familiar of their world, but now a mystery to our world.

Bio
Paul Rider has lifelong roots in the Philadelphia area and eamed his BFA in Photography from Philadelphia College of Art, Philadelphia, PA., (now University of the Arts). He received his MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art & Design, Savannah, GA.

Working in discrete series, Rider creates his imagery by constructing still life in the studio utilizing found objects and also through the use of abstract and documentary photographic styles. The compelling issue that has driven his work, is the interface and struggle between nature and manmade urban culture. All of his photographic projects share an elegant, visually compeling narrative and strong thoughtful, almost sculptural, composition.

He has taught at the university level since 2003. Rider's photographs have been exhibited in Europe and throughout the United States
