About the Work
The act of painting for me is simultaneously a thanksgiving and a plea - both gratitude for the chance and a petition to find the path where magic lives.

Recurring themes are archetypes from Judeo-Christian tradition: sacrifice, redemption, transformation. Other themes are more personal, their meaning hinted at or revealed both through the forms and titles.

Geometry is my guardian against the arbitrary - protection against painting for painting's sake.

Iwan (John) Nazarewycz earned a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. A painter, he showed with Larry Becker Gallery for over a decade, as well as with galleries in New York and Washington, DC. His work has been exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; the Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington, DE; and Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA. Nazarewycz's paintings are held in private residential and corporate collections throughout the country.
