Alexandria Nazar: Almost Matching, 2019, oil on canvas, 17" x 16"

About:

My work deals with meditations on the space between gestures. How can painting capture an imprint of something that happened without notice? These actions are linked to both the mundane and the urgent, both making a meal you've made a hundred times before and a physical violation. Using the nebulous space of memory and repetitive motion I reverse the role of the object and use it as a proxy to implicate the body. I aim to understand ideas of agency and infliction through these intentionally complicated relationships. Through an examination of the personal and the corporeal I can explore simultaneous ways of understanding.
