Historic 1974 Pamir Ice Ax

Take home this piece of climbing history complete with an incredible story! In 1974, on the heels of the Cold War, 170 of the world's best climbers were in the Pamir Mountains, which lie in the southern part of the Soviet Union. In the area known to some as "the roof of the world", a group of climbers were attempting to climb Peak Lenin, a summit of 7,134 meters (23,406ft). This was the first major American expedition allowed in the Soviet Union. The gathering was seen as a means to bring up young mountaineers and foster relationships between countries.

This rare, priceless ice ax was used by Jed Williamson, a participant in the 1974 expedition that was plagued by avalanches and the worst storm in decades. Now you can take this piece of history home. Leave the beautiful wood handle blank, or have it signed tonight by some of climbing's most prominent legends-the choice is yours!

Previously destined for the Annual Dinner Live Auction, it is now open for bidding! This is your chance to win a truly special item.
