An incredible and unique surrealist interpretation of sailing on the Hudson River by German Artist Max Graf von Schwerin, done in a single-line style. A perfect addition to the modern sailor's home.

Title: Alstersegler / River Sailor
("Alster" is a river in Hamburg, Germany, known for sailing).

Interview by the artist: Artist Max Graf von Schwerin

Can you describe how you created "Alstersegler"?

I work subconsciously. This area of the brain is usually inaccessible but makes up 80% of its function. By doing so, I ensure that I create something entirely new and not just an image depicting reality. I can access my subconsciousness by limiting myself to working with only one continuous line.

What does "Alstersegler" mean to you? What was your inspiration?

It was created by itself. It did not follow any designated form or concept. It is here because it had to be here.

What does Sailing mean to you?

I actually celebrated most of my childhood birthdays in the cockpit of a sailboat. There was one moment that I still remember very vividly. When I was little, I was down below and watched through the bull's eye how to boat was constantly submerging and emerging from the waves of the Baltic Sea. It was not until many years later that I understood the full situation. We were surprised by a storm during our sail and my parents were fighting up on deck to prevent the boat from capsizing and sinking.

Why did you get involved with HRCS?

I would like to answer this question with a metaphor "Because some have to fight storms on deck, so that others can explore the wonders of the world."
