Artist Bio: Kathy Rorie is a North Carolina artist who resides in Weddington with her husband Buck. Her work is mainly abstract to nonobjective. Mrs. Rorie has won over fifty awards and has been the recipient of several grants through the North Carolina Arts Council. Her work is in the private collection of regional corporations and individuals residing from California to Paris, France. Her work can currently be seen at Cityart in Columbia, South Carolina and at her studio in Monroe, North Carolina. It can also be seen in the bok Colours in Verse - a book of poetry by the artist sister Paula Crabill.
"I begin my paintings without a predetermined direction. After building a surface with different materials, a mood or atmosphere usually develops. If I am lucky, images start to appear that I want to further explore. These images seem to reflect memories from my childhood, books that I have read or places that i have visited throughout my life. Many times a dialogue seems to develop between myself and the painting as if the piece were speaking to me. Most of my paintings are part of a very personal visual journal. I would be pleased if the viewer had a personal reaction or interpretation of their own. I would be happy to ignite an interest or curiosity about art in anyone." ~Kathy Rorie
