For too many kids growing up in Austin, child abuse is a life sentence. Every year, there are more than 2,000 cases of child abuse reported, and over 400 children are removed from their homes as a result. This suffering and trauma affects their long-term physical and mental health - leading to a greater risk of incarceration, teen pregnancy, dropping out of high school or college, homelessness, and suicide.

Upali Weerasooriya
2019 Guardian Award Recipient

Each year, SAFE awards the Guardian Award to an individual or organization that has made supporting SAFE's programs part of their mission. This year, SAFE is pleased to present the award to Dr. Upali Weerasooriya, Senior Researcher and Director at The University of Texas. Upali joined SAFE's board, then Austin Children's Shelter, in 2013 and has since been a generous supporter of our programs. In addition to supporting SAFE, Upali funds several scholarships and other charity projects in Austin. He also supports hospitals, schools, orphanages, scholarships, and more in Sri Lanka, including funding two blind parents out of poverty.

The SAFE Alliance is pleased to announce the 2019 Luxury Raffle featuring three great prizes. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold, so there is a 3 in 1,000 chance of winning one of the following:
