The legend of Il Ponte Del Diavolo bridge is the townspeople had not been able to build a bridge across the river because it was too wide and the river would wash out everything they attempted. The devil paid them a visit and said he could build them a bridge, but at a price. The first soul to cross the bridge would be his! The towns people thought this over and agreed to pay that price. The next morning they awoke to find that the devil had built his bridge that now connected the two sides of town. As the devil waited on the other side for his promised payment, the towns people gathered to face him. The photographer's grandmother crossed this bridge when she emigrated to the U.S. following World War 1.
