Raymond McLein, Shino Bowl, Stoneware bowl, 14-¾"x 5"

Raymond McLein is an artist and musician. His pottery reflects the blending of musical inspiration and artistic expression. After being introduced to pottery in high school, he had the opportunity to learn from some of the finest potters in the South Bend area including Tom Meuninck, Jim Paradis, Gundiga Pinikis, Janet Leazenby, and Lynda Price. Raymond also acquired other skills from carpenters, electricians, and plumbers which enabled him to create two studios and build three kilns over the course of forty years.

Statement excerpt:

The forms are primarily classical in nature, while the application of design and texture is more indicative of the improvisational style of Contemporary Jazz. The flowing handles and rhythmic stamping add fluidity and flow to the classical forms and demonstrate the remarkable plasticity of the medium.
