Peg Carney Luecke, Homage to Frank Dudley, Soft pastel, 10"x18" image 19"x27" framed

Peg Luecke is a pastel artist and former Director of Marketing and Events at the South Bend Museum of Art. She has a background in graphic design, working for ad agencies, local colleges, not-for-profits, and political campaigns. In 2001, Peg enrolled in Cathy McCormick's pastel landscape class at the SBMA, where she continues to pursue enlightenment in the company of other pastel artists. A charter member of the Northern Indiana Pastel Society, she has exhibited and received a number of awards in local and regional competitive shows, most recently as a finalist in the St. Joseph County Public Library's Charlotte Hunt Art Prize.

Artist statement:

Most of my subject matter is found in the local landscape. I am enchanted by the quality of light-particularly early and late-that infuses our everyday surroundings and renders them subjects worthy of artistic rendition; sunlight (a precious commodity here in northern Indiana) transforming the ordinary to the sublime. Beauty exists right where you are once you decide to recognize it.
