Artist statement about Main St. Bridge:
The quilt is a symbol of warmth, comfort, and tranquility. They tell stories ranging from color and fabric trends to family lineage and cultural history. Main St. Bridge is a part of a body of work that narrates locations throughout South Bend that are often overlooked or viewed as unimportant. This bridge, a landmark en-route to shopping centers on the South Side of town has been a refuge to many. On December 4, 2017 during an unseasonably warm early December, citizens of our most vulnerable population had their belongings taken away in the bucket of a front-end loader and deposited into the rear of a trash truck. With their shelters and clothing gone, these people suffered the brutal winter to follow. This story may be forgotten by many who cross the bridge, but underneath, it remains to be told.
