Emily Hayes is on a quest to save her mother. She is joined by her guides, Leon Redbeard the warrior fox, Miskit the mechanical rabbit, and the colossal form of Charnon House. These are the protagonists of the acclaimed graphic novel series Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi. Kibuishi made this drawing especially for the 2019 Carle Honors. It is based on the final scene in the series' first installment, Amulet: The Stonekeeper (2008).
Amulet: The Stonekeeper is an ALA Best Book for Young Adults (2009). Kibuishi's series Flight Volume 2 was nominated for the 2006 Eisner Award for Best Anthology. Amulet is published by Scholastic's graphic novel imprint, Graphix, which was founded by this year's Carle Honors Mentor, David Saylor.
All proceeds benefit The Carle's mission to instill a love of art and reading through picture books.
Artwork is framed by R. Michelson Galleries using archival materials.
Winners can take their artwork immediately after The Carle Honors. Absentee winners will receive their artwork via Federal Express; a flat shipping fee of $150 per artwork will apply.
