Elisha Cooper painted this watercolor landscape of the Hudson River especially for the 2019 Carle Honors. It is inspired by his forthcoming book River. Cooper lists his materials as "watercolors, pencil, sweat, tears, coffee, [and] music."
Cooper's books include Big Cat, Little Cat (2017), which won a Caldecott Honor, and the memoir Falling: A Daughter, A Father, and a Journey Back (2017). He is one of several talented artists who works with David Saylor, this year's Carle Honors Mentor.
All proceeds benefit The Carle's mission to instill a love of art and reading through picture books.
Artwork is framed by R. Michelson Galleries using archival materials.
Winners can take their artwork immediately after The Carle Honors. Absentee winners will receive their artwork via Federal Express; a flat shipping fee of $150 per artwork will apply.
