At the center of Melissa Sweet's assemblage from Some Writer! The Story of E. B. White is an actual goose egg. Sweet was inspired by White's words about the wonder of eggs as cradles of life and new beginnings. White collected eggs laid by his favorite goose Felicity.
Sweet is this year's Carle Honors Artist. She won two Caldecott Honors for The Right Word: Roget and His Thesaurus and A River of Words: William Carlos Williams, both by Jen Bryant. Some Writer! The Story of E. B. White earned the 2017 NCTE Orbus Pictus Award and a Boston Globe Horn Book Honor. Sweet's work was featured in The Carle's exhibitions Eric Carle and Friends: What's Your Favorite Color? (2017), Collecting Inspiration: Contemporary Artists and their Heroes (2017), and Treasures from the Collection: A 15th Anniversary Celebration (2017).
All proceeds benefit The Carle's mission to instill a love of art and reading through picture books.
Artwork is box framed by The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art using archival materials.
Transportation by a fine art shipper is recommended for this delicate assemblage. Additional costs will incur.
