This one of a kind painting by Olga Sokolova (age 9) is available for viewing during the live reception! Olga is both an incredible artist and Habitat resident along with her younger brother Eugene (age 4) and mother Anna.

Before living in their Habitat home, they were living in an over-crowded apartment that accounted for more than 50% of Anna's gross monthly income. Anna had done her best to provide a home for her family, but had found it difficult living in a foreign country where she didn't speak the language and didn't have any support. At the time of applying, Anna was skeptical of the Habitat program and couldn't believe that people who barely knew her and her children would help her build a house and better future. As a single mother, Anna worked all 500 hours of sweat equity herself while working full time, going to night school and raising her two children. She says Habitat has shown her that with hard work and good people coming together, anything is possible.

Olga is incredibly proud that her mom worked with her own hands to build their home. She is also extremely grateful to Habitat and was excited at the opportunity to make a contribution to this year's Gala. She hopes her painting will raise money to help other families build their homes too!
