Artist Bio:

Katherine Bell McClure, Artist Atlanta, Georgia USAA wife, mother and lifelong artist, I paint because it's what gets me out of bed in the morning. I wake up, form an idea, and go. Second only to my family, animals bring me the most joy; therefore, they tend to be the subject of most of my art. I am inspired by the menagerie of rescues I have at home and surround myself with images of many more. You will find our family dogs, ducks, chickens, rabbits and surrounding wildlife in my paintings as well as images of animals I find online and in books.To make my art, I reuse discarded materials-particularly old books and maps. Books become the canvas itself, or their pages get mixed into paintings; old maps are often the paper in works on paper. Each piece tends to start as abstract mixed media, then I add the image.Most of my art is 2-deminsional, painted in sizes big and small, with muted colors more often than not. Frequently, I finish the pieces with hand worked frames, acrylic panels or resin. When I continue to add onto the piece, creating assemblages from handmade and found objects, I make 3 dimensional art for the wall as well as free-standing sculptures. In most of my work, you will continue to be surprised by detail easy to miss initially, with layer upon layer of drawing mixed with painting.
