Artist: Michael Banks

Medium: Salvaged boards, using acrylic & enamel with an over-painting of turpentine & tar

Size: 40.5" x 36.5"

Artist Bio:

Michael Banks is an artist from Alabama, who knew from the time he was a child that he wanted to be an artist. A self-taught painter, Michael has abandoned tradition on many levels and, in the process, succeeded in achieving a place in the wider world of contemporary American art. His presence has brought excitement to the "folk" genre, creating a bridge for several younger painters to follow.

With this development has come a significant increase in demand for his painting. His work is collected by lovers of self-taught art, & by those with an interest in contemporary art, as well.

Michael is deeply creative, with experimentation and resourcefulness always integral parts of his process. His painting of disparate imagery on salvaged boards, using acrylic & enamel with an over-painting of turpentine & tar all add to the intrigue.
