Hand-Painted Byobu Screen | The Tale of the Heike | The Genpei Wars | * EXCELLENT CONDITION *

Elevate your home with this historic, yet elegant piece.

This beautiful byobu screen, carefully adorned in gold paint, was hand-crafted at the beginning of the Showa Era (1926 - 1989).

The battle so dutifully represented on this byobu screen originates from the Tale of the Heike, a renowned Japanese literary masterpiece that recounts the many battles of the Genpei War and the fall of the Taira clan.

The Genpei War (Genpai Kassen, Genpei Gassen) (1180-1185) was born from the dramatic conflict between two prominent Japanese clans, the Taira and Minamoto in the late-Heian period. The Genpei War is considered one of the most crucial battles in Japanese history, as the fall of the Taira clan led to the establishment of the Shogunate, which lasted over 600 years.

50% of the proceeds go to the Japanese American Care Fund.
