About the Piece
This is a study for the 2019 American Society of landscape Architects urban watercolor field session in downtown San Diego, using a line-drawing in ink followed by quick washes.
About the Artist
Robert Chipman, ASLA, has always drawn by hand and promotes the value of sketching for the creative thought process. His furniture designs for Landscape Forms have won a few awards, including IDEA gold and bronze, which is pretty good for a landscape architect. Recently, he has been developing some micro-watercolor gear for portability on mountain climbs, and has been working on so-called 'thin-air painting' techniques in precarious locations, techniques that can easily apply to urban settings as well.
