About the Piece

A visual record of our changing climate as experienced where I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, this is a view of San Francisco Bay at sunrise on October 11, 2017, three days after the igniting of the Tubbs Fire in upper Napa Valley. We have entered our third year of a continuous fire season and already have had two major fires in Northern California this year, as of June 1. By the time this photograph is displayed, we will no doubt have had many more. The new normal.

In Northern California, we all learned what an N95 mask is and have added it to our emergency kits in our homes and cars. We wore them continuously outdoors for five days before the smoke from the Tubbs Fire was blown away from the Bay area.
