About the Piece
As a landscape architect, metal artist, and painter, I was inspired by the agrarian landscape of my childhood. My work has evolved to produce a body of design work that is an amalgam of art and landscape, which reflects a lifelong love of minimalism, curiosity with industrial forms and details, and a fascination with texture and materials.

I began using my artistic expressions as a release from the conventions of my design practice. A significant turning point came when I began exploring abstract painting, two-dimensional collages, and three-dimensional assemblages with metal as part of the design process for specific projects. It was then that I understood the role of my art as a catalyst and tool in creating landscapes. Art has become a hands-on testing ground for my interest in the sculptural expression of the properties of materials such as honed stone, crushed limestone, and rusted metal. Experiments in textures and subtle variations in hue are furrowed back into my practice, as exhibited in some of my contemporary projects. As a landscape architect and an artist, I draw inspiration from the pure abstraction of the visual world into repetition of objects, order of grids, and textures. The layering and composition of these elements is expressed in my paintings, assemblages, sculpture, and landscapes.

About the Artist
A landscape architect, artist, and founding partner of Wagner Hodgson, H. Keith Wagner is recognized for his design achievements in projects that showcase landscape's immense power and vulnerable beauty, with careful attention to human scale and detailing. Since founding his own firm in 1987 in Burlington, Vermont, Wagner has led the firm to be a diverse practice with a formidable reputation for projects that have a strong sculptural dialogue between buildings and landscape. Wagner has more than three decades of experience, and his national, award-winning work spans all project types and has been widely published. In 2009 Wagner was elected to the Council of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects. He received a B.L.A. from ESF - Syracuse University in 1985.
