"Georgica Pond, Wainscott, NY"
Oil on Reclaimed Board, Signed
Fall 2018
7.75" x 7.75"

About the Piece
This vignette offers an emotional acknowledgment of the atmospheric qualities of the landscape. Concerned not so much with the reality of the waterfront but the depiction of light on the land and water, it strives to capture the very essence of eastern Long Island's vanishing landscapes.

Georgica Pond is a 290-acre coastal lagoon on the western border of East Hampton Village and Wainscott. Small coves branch out from the main body of water, creating havens for more than 60 bird species and other flora and fauna. In recent years, the pond's native species and water quality have been in decline, sparking an outpouring of local and national involvement in research and restoration.

The scene represents a fleeting moment of calmness, while the texture of the work alludes to the realities of the natural environment.

About the Artist
Vincent C. Brandi was a native of Long Island's North Fork. Brandi earned degrees in painting, art history, and the restoration of fine art and antiquities at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Pratt Institute. After many years of living in Manhattan and traveling the United States, Brandi returned to his home, inspired by the rural and haunting beauty of eastern Long Island.

The Les Pommiers Series marked a turning point in Brandi's eighteen-year painting career. Displayed in the winter of 2011 at the Michelle Farmer Collaborative in Palm Beach, California, these works were received with much admiration. They also launched many other series, which were represented in group and solo shows in Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Montreal, Sag Harbor, London, and Paris. Many of Brandi's works are part of corporate and private collections. Brandi currently divides his time between Washington, D.C., and eastern Long Island.
