About the Artist

Aaron John Bourque is an artist, photographer, and educator. By visiting document archives and reading the landscape for the evidence of our histories, Bourque creates lyric documents that find a tension between the descriptive qualities of the photographic object and the experience of an encounter with the world. Bourque's work searches for connections to the places where we dwell, the systems that shape daily life, and the histories we leave behind. His work is a meditation on America's relationship with its own history, and a challenge to know the places we call home. Bourque is a full-time lecturer on art and design, as well as the art and design coordinator for graduate studies and research in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. He holds a B.A. in history from Keene State College, a post-baccalaureate certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and an M.F.A. from Tufts University. His fine arts and commercial studio is based in Framingham, Massachusetts.
