"Café Madame. Paris, France"
Linoleum Print, Signed
2013
Edition 3 of 3
12" x 12" (unframed)
12.5" x 12" (framed)

About the Piece

Café Madame is tucked away in a corner of Paris on rue de Vaugirard in the Sixth Arrondissement, near the Luxembourg Gardens. We ducked in on a rainy November day while searching for a bicycle repair shop. The tea and coffee (and croissant, of course!) were delicious, and the welcoming warmth and buzz of conversation inside the café was comforting on that misty day. A version of this print was included in the artist's 2014 solo exhibit at La Caféothèque de Paris, in the Fourth Arrondissement of Paris.

About the Artist

René Shoemaker, known by some ASLA members as the former director of the Owen's Library and Circle Gallery at the University of Georgia College of Environment and Design, has moved away from Athens, Georgia, to pursue her dream of creating art, traveling, and living in France. Her plan is working! After "retiring," she had a year-long exhibit of site-specific installation silk paintings at the Columbus (Georgia) Museum of Art during 2015-2016, and in 2019 she exhibited a new series of work at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in Laurel, Mississippi. In the meantime, she exhibits in Paris, New York, London, Los Angeles, and Limousin (France), and she has a new exhibit scheduled for Paris in February 2020.
