Outside the Supreme Court protesters stormed the plaza and one woman climbed on the lap of the statue titled "Contemplation of Justice" and raised as handwritten sign that read "Believe Survivors" as Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in inside the building. The Senate voted to confirm judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court as protesters continued. Saturday October 6, 2018.
Photographer's Bio:
Damon Winter is a staff photographer for The New York Times. Prior to joining the Times in 2007, he worked at The Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News, Newsweek, Magnum Photos, The Ventura County Star and The Indianapolis Star. Winter has covered a broad range of stories, including conflicts in Israel and Afghanistan, September 11 in New York and the Olympics. He has won numerous awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International and National Press Photographers Association. His photo essay on sexual abuse victims in western Alaska was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography. He won that award in 2009 for his memorable array of pictures deftly capturing multiple facets of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
