This portrait of Terry Whitaker was taken in Greenville, Mississippi on a trip with the Gravity is Stronger Here (GISH) collective along with members Phyllis B. Dooney, Jardine Libaire, and myself. Greenville is a key tile in our national mosaic as it represents the American boom town left in the wake of a changing global economy--a historic delta town nestled along the Mississippi river and blues trail.

Photographer's Bio:

Aaron Turner (b. 1990) is a photographer and educator currently based in Arkansas. He uses photography to pursue personal stories of people of color, in two main areas of the U.S., the Arkansas and Mississippi Deltas. He received his M.A. from Ohio University and an M.F.A from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. He participated in the 2018 Light Work Artists-in-Residence at Syracuse University and is a 2019 En Foco Photography Fellowship recipient.
