James River Retreat

Enjoy a long weekend (three-night, four day) getaway to this award-winning James River home designed by Katie and Danny MacNelly. Located near Scottsville, Virginia, this 40-acre riverside retreat is situated just off a bend of the James River with three cabins arranged loosely and lightly on the land like a scattered group of stones around a campfire.

The three distinct cabins frame different views of the forested river valley. The central area features the living room and kitchen which includes a large island for dining. The second cabin houses the master bedroom (one king bed), a bunk room for kids (sleeps eight), and two full bathrooms. The third cabin or "The Lair" has a guest suite that includes a queen bed and a full bathroom. This home also features a multipurpose room with a pull out queen bed and indoor and outdoor fireplaces!

During the spring and summer (May-Sept.), plan to float or paddle to nearby Scottsville. Kayaks and inner tubes as well as a truck that stays on the property for hauling kayaks and tubes upriver are included. During the fall and winter, plan to build fires, hike or visit Wintergreen which is a short 30-minute drive from the home. Any time of the year, you can also visit nearby Blenheim, Jefferson, Gabrielle Russe or Pippen Hill wineries or drive 20 minutes to visit Charlottesville.

Sleeps 14. This home is available for a mutually agreeable weekend within one year, excludes Thanksgiving week.
