"Played" by Erika Vaden

This original acrylic and pastel on canvas, "Played", by local artist Erika Vaden is framed in gold and white and is stunning! It measures

29" x 34".

As early as she can remember, Erika was drawn to anything creative. After graduating from College of Charleston, she set out to prove that she could make it professionally as an artist. She began a career as a decorative painter specializing in classical techniques such as Tromp l'oeil, ornamental and various faux finishes which took her all over the east coast.

She has always had a dream though of being an abstract artist. She could see herself doing it. She read once that it is almost impossible to become an abstract painter without first mastering the skills required of a realist painter. This shift has proven itself quite difficult as she has always relied on recognizable form to tell her story.

She will finish a painting and some will ask, "What is it?" Therein lies the question. It is simply appreciation of how color placement can move a person. How creating texture and movement can make a person stop and stare. It speaks to the soul and to that which is within us. That is what she loves the most.
