1915-2011

James Dance Cawthon was a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana and an accomplished artist. He was a past president of the Shreveport Art Club and charter member and a past president of the Men's Art Guild. He was also a member of the North Louisiana Historical Society, which published some of his articles.

He earned a degree in Commerce from Louisiana Tech University and began his career teaching at Spring Hill High School and later was a bookkeeper with Frost Lumber Industries. He moved to Shreveport in 1939, and soon began his 36-year career in the accounting department of the United Gas Company and the Pennzoil Company, retiring in 1975 as Manager of the Plant Accounting Department of Pennzoil Producing Company. He then served as a Business Administrator for First Presbyterian Church in Shreveport, for 10 years.
