Oil on canvas

Unframed: H. 40; W. 40"

Artist's Statement

My paintings deal with the wild combination of Southern imagery in the United States, humor, and existentialism. By using fable-like narratives, the majority of the work consists of a half-fantastical, half-realist approach to oil paint, which depicts characters coming to grips with their own impermanence. I love creating worlds with characters that don't mind leaning into the cheesy wonderment of what it all means. Perseverance is an important element within these roles, while they are seen continuing onward despite noticing their own mortality. I enjoy describing this work as comically hopeful and yet bittersweet.
