ABOUT THE ARTIST

Betsy Johnson Welty was born and raised in Denver. She attended Occidental College, graduating with honors and a B.A. in Fine Art with a focus in painting. To help pay the bills, she was editorial cartoonist and graphic designer for the campus newspaper and art directed campus publications after graduation. She returned to Denver to pursue a career

in graphic design and opened her own studio, garnering numerous design honors and awards, including a Colorado Governor's Citation.

Welty's love of painting never left her, and she has continued to develop her fine art, studying at the Art Students League of Denver and with artists Kevin Weckbach, SusieHyer, Mark Daily and Jordan Wolfson. She paints both en plein air and in the studio, in watercolor and oil. Her award-winning fine art has appeared in state and national juried shows as well as at Framed Image Gallery in Denver, Lone Tree Fine Arts Center, Curtis Center for the Arts, Main Street Fine Art Gallery, Evergreen, CO and Denver Central Library Vida Ellison Gallery. She works in both oil and watercolor, in the studio and en plein air. She is inspired by the landscape of Colorado and the West.
