1978 Mouton Rothschild, Premier Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac, Bordeaux. High shoulder.
From Robert Parker: "The 1978 is a vegetal, cedary, coffee, and berry-scented Mouton. The wine is medium bodied, with a slight greenness to its curranty, earthy flavors, and moderately astringent, bitter tannin in the finish. It is a pleasant wine that is unlikely to develop additional complexity or richness." Anticipated maturity: Now. It may be past its prime, but it has been very carefully cellared and it is, after all, a Mouton!
