The Cause

Your generous support of the 2019 Soirée will strengthen the care collaboration of Children's National and Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital in providing world-class pediatric radiation oncology care. This team is the first of its kind for pediatric radiation oncology care in the Washington, DC area. Through the dedicated care the experts at Children's National and Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital provide, we are able to jointly deliver comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer treatment, and innovative clinical trials to our pediatric patients.

Together, we are committed to delivering the highest quality of radiation therapy and to providing supportive programs such as nutrition and family counseling, social services, and survivorship clinics to make sure that children have the best possible experience during treatment and the years beyond.

Our partnership is expanding to include the most advanced radiation therapy available in the world, proton therapy. The first patient will be treated on October 1, 2019 in the new Johns Hopkins National Proton Therapy Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital in collaboration with Children's National. With this new treatment comes a greater need for support services like medication, transportation, meal assistance, and housing for patients and families coming from outside our region for treatment. With your generous gift, we will be prepared to meet the needs of every pediatric patient and family who comes to us for care and provide them access to clinical research trials.

About the Board

Founded in 2012, Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation's Young Professionals Board builds awareness
about the work being done at Sibley, develops robust relationships within the community, and raises funds
for programs. The Board has supported the Young Adults with Cancer support program, the Special Care

Nursery, and most recently, the pediatric radiation oncology program. The 2018 Soirée raised a record-
breaking $270,000 for pediatric radiation oncology. With the October 2019 opening of the Proton Therapy

Center and the anticipated increase in pediatric patients, the Board decided to again provide assistance for
this growing patient population. With your help, the Board hopes to have another record-breaking year.
