Artist: Laurel Prenzlow

Mixed media

I started this piece layering a bunch of items that could be seen as just trash or litter. Such as cardboard, used paper towels, strings, loose pumice stone, tissue paper, wrappers, magazines. Topped that with bright blue and pink paint added black tissue paper to the edges to create depth and the look of somebody being poked by thorns. Lastly added the bald female looking thing. My thought process behind this is in today's society in a world surrounded by a lot of negative but still somewhat hopeful voices you feel spit or torn apart. Specifically focusing on the feelings that come about when you think about power and control and how much you carry compared to others yet still feeling small and powerless. Because sometimes your head is in a state of mind where you feel you have power if you reach just one person and sometimes you think more big picture.
