You and your partner can experience the tradition of hand harvesting your own "Mahnomen" (wild rice) on one of Minnesota's famous wild rice lakes. During this trip for two, you'll experience a day in the rice bed (if you can take it) with Gary Drotts, legendary wild rice harvester and guru. Gary and his partner have hand harvested over 500 pounds of rice from a canoe in one day: he knows the rice beds, my friend. You and your partner will be poled thru the rice beds with you gently flogging the rice plants with two wooden sticks to release the rice into the canoe. On day two of your adventure, you'll take your rice to a local processing plant where you'll witness the process of finishing wild rice. Depending on the season, you can expect to net somewhere between 20 to 40 pounds or more of finished wild rice. Wild rice makes excellent gifts for holidays or just special friends.

Your trip includes three night lodging in a private residence or travel trailer, at least one wild fish and game dinner with wild rice and select libations. Winning bidders can make additional arrangements for Virginia rail hunt in the rice beds or a day of guided fishing for muskie, small mouth bass, walleyes, etc. Your trip will be headquartered in Brainerd, Minnesota, exact dates to be determined by you, guide availability and the condition of the rice beds.
