This hunt will be May of 2020. It is a 6 day hunt with guests flying in on a Sunday and flying out the following Sunday. This hunt is with Jeff Lander of Primitive Outfitting in central British Columbia. This is a spot and stalk hunt in some of the best bear habitat in North America. You can expect to see 6-20 bears a day with 95% of the bears harvested being boars, 6 foot (square) or better. They base out of a newly acquired lodge with all amenities covered with the exception of tag/licenses (wolf is included), tips, and alcohol. Other BHA member(s) may join you at a 10% discount. If you have any questions please call Jeff Lander at 1-780-340-7725 to discuss. This is Jeff's 4th hunt donation to BHA and many members have hunted with him.
Our area boasts of some of the best habitat for black bears in the province.
It has a prolific salmon run in the fall which brings bear in for miles. It is not uncommon to see up to 15 black bears per day, with multiple stalks being the rule rather than the exception. We have about 15% color phase, and the Pope and Yong minimum of 18 inches being common. So not only do we have high bear density's, but have record book quality in the gene pool. We strongly encourage the taking of mature boars, with 95% of our bears taken in 2010 being mature boars. With the strong salmon run and high density of black bears, new boars quickly move in to replace those that were shot by our hunters.
This is an ideal hunt for bowhunters with multiple stalks increasing your chances of a successful hunt.
The hunting area is accessed by vehicle, atv's, and hiking. All stalks are done on foot. In the spring the black bears come out of hibernation and head to the nearest green area (new grass, etc.) to gorge themselves on grass, dandelions, and new growth crops. Thus they are found along old logging roads, clear cuts, fields, and railways. We will be focusing our efforts in these areas in the spring. Come later in the spring season (end of May, beginning of June) the boars start to wander looking for sows in heat. At this time we will be sticking to glassing long stretches of logging roads and glassing on the railways. This is the time that the real big bears show up, and thus the biggest bears of the season are shot during this time.
The spring black bear hunts run 6 days (Sunday thru Friday) and there is a two bear limit. If you want a great spot and stalk bear hunt, with multiple opportunities for success, give me a call.
