Untitled by MaryAnn Russum
Acrylic on Canvas
24" x 24"
I love playing with color and shapes in all the work I do as an artist. I feel like this piece was influenced by artists like Joan Miro and Paul Klee, who have been two of my biggest inspirations. The playfulness of their work, especially in Klee's art, has always fascinated and inspired me.
I usually have a plan before I start a painting but because I was having a creative block this piece, the only pre-planning I did was the colors selection. I let the canvass tell me what it wanted in a way and kept it very free form; almost as if I was sketching rather than painting.
I've worked as a graphic designer for many years but fine art has always been my first love. I'm a maker and painter, creating cute and creepy crafts and I love making art out of found objects especially creating shadow box art. I'm inspired by art that not only catches my eye but inspires me in some way. If it piques my curiosity there's something there for me to learn from or be inspired by. I'm greatly inspired by art from Georgia O'Keefe, Paul Klee, Joan Miro, as well the art of Tim Burton. I'm also a big fan of art relating to Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
