What does it take to make a beautiful handmade quilt at Bay View Montessori?

  • A Brownie Troop
  • 2 Fabulous Troop Leaders
  • 3 Grandmothers
  • 5 Mothers
  • 5 fabric donators
  • 6 sewing machines
  • a few friends who answer endless design questions
  • and a willingness to jump in and try!

The girl scouts sewed together many of the strips that make up the blocks. A few of those strips were cut from fabric they drew on. This was the first time at a sewing machine for many of them. We had a multi-generational team of volunteers, including three sets of grandmothers. The result is an instantly charming, vintage-feel, imperfectly perfect quilt. It's an instant treasure!

(Thank you to those that donated fabric: Sandy Wolf, Jane Savage, Beth Lukomski, Angela Walsh's mother. Those that volunteered the day of: my mom: Sandy Wolf, Sarah Sobecke and her mom Sue, Beth Lukomski and her mom, Jodi Scheske, Nora Wahl, and Lisa McClure. The troop leaders Megan Ryan and Ms. Winklebleck. and to the many that provided encouragement along the way - Erika Wolf)
