Join our Senior Archivist for a private viewing of John James Audubon's masterpiece, the Birds of America. Originally published in the 1830s, these large-scale prints are renowned for their detail and beauty, and represented a new approach to scientific education and interpretation. Audubon was a member of the Boston Society of Natural History, the academic institution that became our Museum of Science. This work, presented in four enormous "elephant folio" volumes, is a facsimile edition produced at full size - it takes two people to move a single volume! Other original artifacts and publications from the Boston Society will also be on display during this special evening, including specimens and historic books that are rarely shown to the public. This package also includes a 1-year family membership to the Mass Audubon Society.
